Peak Season Warehouse Appointments: Don't Get Stuck at the Gate

2026-10

On October 12, three trucks waited outside a 3PL warehouse in north Riyadh from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Their appointment was number 42 for the day. The drivers just sat there.

It is not an isolated case. From mid-October through mid-December, warehouse slots in the Gulf get rationed. FBA and noon FBN release appointments 3-7 days out; in peak season, even 10 days ahead may not be enough. Slot volume from late October to December runs 40%-60% above the slow season.

A missed slot costs you plainly. Rebooking takes 7-10 days. Every extra day a truck sits at port adds roughly SAR 500-900 or AED 400-800 in detention and storage. Split one 40HQ into three deliveries and one miss hurts.

Honestly, most sellers do not have a stock problem. They treat warehouse delivery as something to figure out on arrival. In peak, reverse it: lock the appointment first, then book the container.

My rule is three waves. First 40% in before October 20. Second 40% before November 5. The last 20% by air for urgent replenishment. White Friday and National Day stock all sits in the first two waves. If one appointment slips, you still have room.

Two details. Avoid Sunday nights and Monday mornings, when customs releases and local delivery peak. Slots at 8-10 a.m. or the night window clear far more reliably, and some warehouses charge less for nights. Friday mornings are actually quiet.

Drop-off queues of 2-6 hours are normal. Send full truckloads instead of LTL when you can. The hours saved are worth more than the freight difference.

The pinch is worst in Riyadh and Jeddah, and it is showing up in Dubai too. One seller I know moved 60% of his Q4 volume into a Dubai 3PL and ran cross-border into Saudi, simply because he could not hold consistent Riyadh slots.

Always confirm with a system screenshot and an email receipt. Warehouses reshuffle and cut slots in peak season, and a verbal confirmation leaves you with nothing.

That is how 8ship books deliveries here: appointment, truck schedule, and customs release date all have to line up before the truck moves.
